Crow reading mobile and imagining a story

About PuthuToons

Why Stories? Why Now?

Neuroscience keeps repeating it: children who read (or are read to) show stronger brain-wiring for language, imagination, and self-control than children who mainly watch fast-paced video. [1] [2]

PuthuToons turns screens into a reading launch-pad—helping kids reconnect with their own ideas, values, and the people beside them.

Our Approach

Sharing is Caring: Our Stories are Creative Commons

This means our stories are free to use, share, and adapt for non-commercial purposes, as long as you give credit and share your creations under the same terms.

Reading, Rebooted

Short, page-turning episodes that make kids pause and picture—no autoplay, no noise.

Screen → Story Time

We don't ditch devices; we repurpose them. Each tap opens a doorway to wonder and healthy digital habits. Screens become creative fuel instead of passive feed.

Local Roots, Global Heart

Stories inspired by Indian fables and everyday life, told in English & Tamil.

Open & Shareable

All tales are Creative Commons—free to read, remix, and pass on. Parents, teachers, and young creators can spread the magic legally.

Neuroscience Research

Reading aloud just 20 minutes a day lights up the brain areas for mental imagery and narrative comprehension —an effect that heavy passive screen time can blunt.

Based on neuroimaging studies of reading vs. screen exposure

Stories That Spark Imagination

A mix of original and rediscovered tales in English and Tamil.

The Crow and the Vadai (Reimagined)

What if a hungry crow meets a kind stranger instead of a cunning fox?

The Honest Kite-Flyer

When Arjun loses his kite, a magical test of honesty begins...

Luna and the Library Planet

A girl discovers a world where books float and memories live in pages.

The Story Pot

A Note from Your Fellow Parent

Hello! I'm a parent, who noticed a big change over the last few years: storybooks are gathering dust while endless videos and quick-reward games fill the day.

Kids now scroll, tap, and level-up faster than they imagine, wonder, or read. That worries me.

So I started PuthuToons —Puthu ( புது ) means "new" in Tamil—to bring a fresh, simple way to enjoy stories on the same screens that often distract us.

Our Commitment:

100% free and licensed under Creative Commons.

Short reads in English and Tamil, with audio so children who are still learning to read can listen along.

No autoplay tricks, loot boxes, or sudden paywalls—just stories that invite kids to pause, picture, and discuss.

If your child swaps ten minutes of mindless scrolling for ten minutes of mindful reading, this project is already a success.

Thanks for giving PuthuToons a chance—and for helping stories stay alive in every home.
